Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will not be able to play in the team’s upcoming game against the New England Patriots on Sunday due to a concussion, according to head coach Mike McDaniel.

The team will turn to veteran passer Teddy Bridgewater as the starting quarterback in Tagovailoa’s absence.

Tagovailoa entered the concussion protocol on Monday after reporting symptoms to team doctors following a loss to the Green Bay Packers.

McDaniel confirmed on Wednesday that Tagovailoa did suffer a concussion in that game.

This is the second time that Tua Tagovailoa has been placed in the concussion protocol this season.

The first occurred in Week 4 when he was hospitalized after hitting the back of his head on the ground during a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

In Tagovailoa’s absence, Teddy Bridgewater will start at quarterback. Bridgewater has thrown for three touchdowns and three interceptions in four appearances this season.

The 8-7 Miami Dolphins are currently holding the final AFC wild-card spot, but they are on a four-game losing streak heading into Week 17.
