New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh has expressed his continued support for quarterback Zach Wilson, stating on Friday, “We’re not going to quit on him,” according to The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt.

Wilson was benched in favor of Chris Streveler during Thursday night’s 19-3 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars after completing only nine of 18 passes for 92 yards and an interception.

Saleh believes that Wilson’s struggles are due to a lack of confidence, and he said, “It’s a tough thing to overcome…but it doesn’t take much to flip confidence. He just needs to get on a little run.”

The head coach declined to name Wilson as the starter for Week 17 if Mike White is not ready to return, as White, who took over the starting job from Wilson but has missed the last two games due to a rib injury, is currently the backup.

When asked if Wilson is still the franchise’s quarterback of the future, Saleh responded, “We’re not going to quit on anybody. I have confidence in all of our guys.”

The Jets, who started the season 7-4, have lost four consecutive games and are out of playoff contention.

Wilson has thrown six touchdowns and seven interceptions in nine starts this season.
